Singapore is committed more than ever in supporting the Arts. A diverse collection of local work together with regional and international contributions has created a vibrant Arts scene with masses of different perspective to be absorbed. Several platforms are available to help young and old Singaporeans express and articulate their potential and creativity. Whether it is visiting an exhibit the Singapore Arts scene has something for everyone. The wide ranges of galleries, museums and fair provide an platform for all tastes and ages. Below are a list of attractions available to the arts connoisseur.

Art Science Museum

Linking Art and Science, visitors are taken on a journey from curiosity to expression that celebrates creativity through the ages and the artistic and scientific accomplishments made by mankind. Situated along the Marina Bay waterfront, the iconic lotus-inspired building is an exemplar of the theme with 10 “fingers” each providing different gallery spaces with distinctively curved interior walls illuminated by filtered light through the fingertips. The 21 galleries spread over three floors house a combination of permanent and constantly changing internationally touring exhibits.

Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

Singapore's premier arts venue hosts a diverse range of dance, music and theatre performances, in addition to captivating visual arts exhibitions. In addition to the Concert Hall and Theatre there are a number of studio theatres used for solo recitals, dances presentations and experimental theatre. The outdoor theatre, overlooking a stunning skyline along the waterfront at Marina Bay, hosts performances ranging from music to dance and theatre attracting numerous visitors, include passers-by. The Esplanade has a number of other spaces that showcase the collaboration with community groups and development of the arts in Singapore.

Gillman Barracks

This place was named after the late General Sir Webb Gillman, a well-known British army officer. Gillman Barracks is a joint venture by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the National Arts Council (NAC) and the JTC Corporation (JTC) and was launched in 2012. It houses the Playeum, Art Outreach and NTU Centre for Contemporary Arts Singapore.

This place is known as the contemporary art destination in Asia. The diverse exhibitions from both local and internally acclaimed artist are the spotlights which are currently housed in the colonial site. Guided tour is available to feed history buffs with a dosage of information on the heritage, art, and history of Gillman Barracks.

Institute of Contemporary Arts

The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA Singapore) is an avenue for both local and international artist to showcase their creativity in experimental and innovative arts. This art space highlights the works of contemporary artists through visual arts, new media, design and performance. It consists of five galleries in 1,500 sq m area and located in Lasalle College of the Arts at 1 McNally Street, Singapore 187940. A public programme is regularly conducted in a form of contemporary performance, symposiums, talks, design, and music presentation. This provides greater awareness and appreciation in the field of contemporary arts.

NTU Centre for Contemporary Art

The NTU Centre for Contemporary Arts is situated at Gillman Barracks which hosts regular events on contemporary arts. It has a programme that gathers and engages recognised local and international artists through exhibitions, film screenings, live performances and talks. The site is identified as the National Research Centre of Nanyang Technological University duly supported by the Economic Development Board, Singapore. Inaugurated in October of 2013, the centre stressed its array of exhibitions, residencies and research and education. Intertwining these 3 major platforms, the centre has an integrated tactic towards emblazoning and showcasing contemporary arts.

NUS Museum

The museum is located on the main campus of the National University of Singapore at 50 Kent Ridge Crescent Singapore 119279. Established in 1955, the NUS Museum is the oldest university museum in Singapore. It offers a diverse collection of Chinese, Indian, and Southeast Asian arts which signifies historical trail. The artworks and artifacts were divided into four collections and these are: Lee Kong Chian Art Museum collection, South and Southeast Asian collection, Ng Eng Teng Collection, and Straits Chinese collection. Generally, the collections consist of Chinese bronzes, jade ceramics, classical paintings, Indian classical sculptures and miniatures and art galleries. Various exhibitions, workshops, and heritage tours are conducted at the National University of Singapore Museum.
